DEBERES
GENERALES DE LOS MEDICOS
El médico
mantendrá siempre el más alto nivel de conducta
profesional.
El médico no
permitirá que el ejercicio libre e independiente de su
juicio profesional en favor de sus pacientes quede
influido por motivos de ganancia.
En todo tipo de
práctica médica, el médico procurará prestar su
servicio profesional con competencia, con plena
independencia técnica y moral, y con compasión y
respeto por la dignidad del hombre.
El médico debe
tratar con honradez a sus pacientes y colegas y se obliga
a denunciar a los médicos débiles de carácter o
deficientes en competencia y a los que incurran en fraude
o engaño.
Se consideran
faltas de ética las siguientes prácticas:
a) La publicidad
hecha por el médico, a menos que esté permitida por las
leyes del país y por el Código de ética de la
asociación médica nacional.
b) Dar o recibir
una comisión u otra ventaja por haber enviado un enfermo
a un colega, o por dirigir al paciente a determinada
farmacia o establecimiento.
El médico deberá
respetar los derechos de los pacientes, de los colegas y
de los otros profesionales de la salud, y protegerá las
confidencias de sus enfermos.
El médico, cuando
administre cuidados profesionales que puedan debilitar la
condición física o mental de su paciente, sólo lo
hará para beneficio del enfermo.
El médico obrará
con suma cautela al divulgar, a través de canales no
profesionales, sus descubrimientos, nuevas técnicas o
remedios. El médico certificará sólo lo que haya
comprobado personalmente.
DEBERES DE
LOS MEDICOS HACIA LOS ENFERMOS
El médico tendrá
siempre presente su deber de preservar la vida humana.
El médico debe a
su paciente una total lealtad y todos los recursos de su
ciencia. Siempre que un médico vea que alguna
exploración o tratamiento sobrepasan su capacidad,
deberá pedir la ayuda de otro médico que tenga la
habilidad necesaria.
El médico
guardará secreto absoluto sobre todo lo que sabe acerca
de su paciente, aun después de la muerte de éste.
El médico tiene la
obligación humanitaria de prestar auxilios en caso de
urgencia, a no ser que esté seguro de que otros médicos
pueden y quieren prestar esos auxilios.
DEBERES DE
LOS MEDICOS ENTRE SI
El médico se
portará con sus colegas como quisiera que sus colegas se
portaran con él.
El médico no puede atraer hacia sí los pacientes de sus
colegas.
El médico observará los principios de la
Declaración de Ginebra aprobada por la Asociación
Médica Mundial.

DUTIES OF
PHYSICIANS IN GENERAL
A physician shall
always maintain the highest standards of professional
conduct.
A physician shall
not permit motives of profit to influence the free and
independent exercise of professional judgment on behalf
of patients.
A physician shall
in all types of medical practice, be dedicated to
providing competent medical service in full technical and
moral independence, with compassion and respect for human
dignity.
A physician shall
deal honestly with patients and colleagues, and strive to
expose those physicians deficient in character or
competence, or who engage in fraud or deception.
The following
practices are deemed to be unethical conduct:
a)Self advertising
by physicians, unless permitted by the laws of the
country and the Code of Ethics of the National Medical
Association.
b)Paying or
receiving any fee or any other consideration solely to
procure the referral of a patient or for prescribing or
referring a patient to any source.
A physician shall
respect the rights of patients, of colleagues, and of
other health professionals and shall safeguard patient
confidences.
A physician shall
act only in the patient's interest when providing medical
care which might have the effect of weakening the
physical and mental condition of the patient.
A physician shall
use great caution in divulging discoveries or new
techniques or treatment through non-professional
channels.
A physician shall
certify only that which he has personally verified.
DUTIES OF
PHYSICIANS TO THE SICK
A physician shall
always bear in mind the obligation of preserving human
life.
A physician shall
owe his patients complete loyalty and all the resources
of his science. Whenever an examination or treatment is
beyond the physician's capacity he should summon another
physician who has the necessary ability.
A physician shall
preserve absolute confidentiality on all he knows about
his patient even after the patient has died.
A physician shall
give emergency care as a humanitarian duty unless he is
assured that others are willing and able to give such
care.
DUTIES OF
PHYSICIANS TO EACH OTHER
A physician shall
behave towards his colleagues as he would have them
behave towards him.
A physician shall
not entice patients from his colleagues.
A physician shall observe the principles of
the "Declaration of Geneva" approved by the
World Medical Association
