If you feel that some recent news need to be published here, just send the link and the next TEPUYS BLOG will publish it, if fits our philosophy...

COMMENTARY

......After six TEPUYS BLOGS (see "OLD BLOGS") I feel that I must continue drawing this line, a little bit hard the part of translating to english the spanish summaries of the news. I am thinking now that is better to present TEPUYS BLOG each four days, instead of 2-3 only, and maybe faith help me to get the english version working as updated as the spanish version...

VENEZUELAN RAINFOREST FACES DANGEROUS SITUATIONS

Our philosophy starts understanding the fact that such

A VAST TERRAIN COVERED BY RAINFOREST IS OUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE IN VENEZUELA, AND NEVER ANY OTHER RESOURCE.

Not gold, nor the diamonds, neither the petroleum, much less the super industrial development actually working and planned for next years on the region South of the Orinoco river.

KEEPING THIS RAINFOREST ALIVE AND WELL, WE ARE ABLE TO REACH A SPECIAL STATE OF GRACE WITH LIFE AND GOD. THUS BRINGING HAPINESS TO OUR LIVES AND WEALTH TO OUR NATION VENEZUELA.

TEPUYS BLOG POLICY

If any accident, field work, holydays, internet connectivity problems or any other inconvennience happens that stop me, each 2-3 days an updated TEPUYS BLOG will be here bringing the link to some of the courrent news happening in Venezuela and the rest of the world.

Some of these news are in spanish, others in english, the main idea of TEPUYS BLOG is about to translate the title and short resume of each news correspondingly to show here such translations in both languages.

THE TOPICS used here to organize the news are my choice, DARK GREEN means here "Deep Ecology News" that reflects philosophies, propositions or changes towards a new social order of alternative technologies and communities capable of mending the roots of our planetary ecological crisis which everyday is getting worse... And PALE GREEN is for a wide spectrum of news ranging from today's good and necesary "first steps" towards a darker ecology, reviewing all the tones of corporative, guvermental or NGOs green colors, to the lightest and almost bleeched greenwashing. The other topics are used to organize the news for VENEZUELA, TECHNOLOGY, BIODIVERSITY, and FOREST. In future TEPUYS BLOGS, perhaps is needed a change, add or re-arrange of these TOPICS again.

RUSH - 2112

As you can see, here is not used the color RED, because leftist, socialist or communist ideologies, and the like, are just the same superindustrial propositions as the free market CAPITALISM, we need something radically different from both social orders if we want some success as human beings.

FOR READERS IN ENGLISH: My native language is spanish, I am very sorry for mistakes in english writings...

SEED WARS BEGIN May 21, 2003 - AgBioIndia.org It was expected to happen anytime. Despite the seed companies claiming initially that they have no interest in imposing the strict patent regimes, the reality is that seed laws are being used to send farmers to jail. In the United States, a farmer is going to jail for saving transgenic cotton seed sold by Monsanto. In Canada, the Supreme Court has decided to hear canola farmer Percy Schmeiser's case. Not only Monsanto, Syngenta too has begin to tighten the noose Developing country farmers too should get ready to face the music. The introduction of Farmers' Rights in the sui generis legislations that are being prepared in some countries (including India) are merely a political exercise that may not cut much ice in the days to come. After all, the same countries that talk of Farmers Rights are also queuing up to join UPOV, where the 1991 option takes away the rights of the farmers to save, exchange and sell seeds...READ

GM FOOD: CONSUMERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO KNOW May 26, 2003 - straitstimes IF YOU catch the average housewife here buying canola oil and tell her it was originally an industrial lubricant, she is likely to turn somewhat pale. Tell her that the canola plant has had its genes modified so its oil may be used for cooking, and she'll ask why there's nothing on the label to indicate so. Let her know that the same item would be labelled as such when it is on supermarket shelves in Australia or New Zealand, and she'll be outraged. The European Union (EU) has gone even further, having imposed a ban on imports of genetically-modified (GM) food - mainly from North America - since 1998. Five years later and two weeks ago, the United States, joined by Canada and supported by Argentina, finally filed a suit at the World Trade Organisation against that EU ban, raising the prospects of an all-out trade war...READ

IN JUST 40 YEARS, CHESTNUTS DIED OUT May 25, 2003 - Cleveland.com A fungus from Asia was found on chestnut trees in the New York Zoological Garden. A similar fate awaited the nation's elms. A fungus spread by the European elm bark beetle was first found in Cleveland 73 years ago. The killer apparently arrived in a shipment of logs from France, and soon elms were falling prey across the United States. By 1970, nearly 100 million died. Despite years of research, there still is no cure for Dutch elm disease. U.S. Forest Service researchers, however, believe they have cloned trees that are resistant to the disease...READ

ZAPATISMO AND GLOBALIZATION One of the most important events in the movement against global capitalism was the Zapatista uprising on January 1st, 1994-the day NAFTA went into effect. The Zapatista uprising sent shock waves around the world and would help inspire and mobilize massive opposition to transnational capitalism. Here was a group of mostly indigenous peasants rising up against both a domestic and international enemy. Although the Zapatista uprising should be viewed as one occurrence of over 500 years of indigenous resistance against the genocide forced upon them by European conquerors, the Zapatista uprising is one of the most significant events in the fight against "free" trade and the global domination of market forces. How exactly did a group of poor, mostly illiterate and supposedly backward and docile Mayan Indians help inspire worldwide resistance to the evil side of "globalization?"...READ

GLOBALIZATION AND THE CHURCH'S NEW CHALLENGES May 25, 2003 - ManilaTimes As its name signifies, the Catholic Church is no stranger to globalization. The Church’s mission from the beginning has been to spread the Good News to every corner of the earth. In the course of pursuing that mission for 2,000 years, she has time and again confronted challenges posed by transformations of culture as well as by cultural differences... ...Giving the World a Soul: Pope John Paul II has counseled and modeled a cautiously hopeful view of globalization... ...Effects on culture: The effects of globalization upon culture thus pose a special challenge to a Church that seeks to spread Christianity through “inculturation.” Globalization, coming in the wake of industrialization and urbanization, tends to accelerate the decline of the mediating structures of civil society (families, parishes, neighborhoods) where the virtues that might serve to humanize globalization are instilled, reinforced, and transmitted from one generation to the next. The culture-destroying aspects of these changes have alarmed even secular observers like Friedman who see them as potentially undermining the benefits of globalization itself, especially in developing countries: “You cannot build an emerging society . . . if you are simultaneously destroying the cultural foundations that cement your society and give it the self-confidence and cohesion to interact properly with the world...READ
